Conference in Montedonove, Italy

Seminar at the Comune di Montedinove (organized by the two Swedish universities Kungliga Tekniska högskolan and Lunds Tekniska). Presentation by Jean-Luc Sandoz. Duration from August 28 to 31, 2024. Jean-Luc Sandoz, a Franco-Swiss engineer, is a pioneer in the fiel d of wood construction. He started with a carpentry apprenticeship, then pursued engineering studies at ENSTIB and obtained his EPFL doctorate in 1990. He developed non-destructive technologies to measure the mechanical quality of wood and designed innovative structural systems. He is a professor at EPFL and co-wrote volume XIII of the civil engineering treatise "Construction en Bois". ln 1991, he founded the CBS-Lifteam group. As a global expert, he has carried out emblematic projects such as the offshore platforms of Expo 02 in Switzerland, or the Guiana Space Center in Kourou, in 2017. He advocates for sustainable forest management through a philosophy of "more engineering, less material". He received the Medal of the Academy of Architecture of France in 2016 and the Fibois lle-de-France Prize for ecological housing in Paris. Jean-Luc Sandoz continues to be a major figure in the field of wood construction, contributing to innovative and sustainable projects.
