Michelet High School, Vanves

25.11.2020

Michelet High School's sports facilities undergoing major renovations.

A shared project

Delayed by the health crisis, renovation work on the sports facilities at the Michelet school complex in Vanves began at the end of summer 2020 for a period of 13 months.

From the start of the 2021 school year, the renovated and adapted sports facilities will be shared to benefit the 2,300 students of the school complex (middle and high school students) as well as the associations and services of the City of Vanves.

Led by the Île-de-France Region, the €7.765 million project is financed by the three parties:

   • The Île-de-France Region, which manages the high schools, is responsible for most of the cost of the work, i.e. 43% ;

   •  the City of Vanves finances 30% of the cost in return for 30% of the slots reserved for associations ;

    • and the Hauts-de-Seine department finances 27% of the project.

To monitor this operation, the Île-de-France Region has delegated project management to Île-de-France Construction Durable.

Work in progress

This vast project, which will take 13 months to complete, involves the redevelopment of nearly 38,500 m² of sports facilities.

The work has started with the construction of the football/rugby field, for which the finishing coat is currently being laid. The delivery of this first phase will enable users to take possession of this new, refurbished space as of the February 2021 vacation season.

In a second phase, the athletics track, also currently under construction, will be delivered in the spring of 2021.

The rest of the project includes the construction of a throwing platform (discus, shot put, javelin), the creation of a covered multi-sports field and the construction of a building to accommodate athletes (changing rooms and toilets, storage rooms, premises for associations and a dressing room for the janitor).

Finally, outdoor lighting will be installed to allow the use of the sports facilities in the evenings by the associations in Vanveville.

Careful landscaping

At the heart of a vast park of nearly 15 hectares (37 acres), the project designed by Explorations architecture fits harmoniously into this landscaped and historic site, part of whose buildings are listed and protected as Historic Monuments.

Particular attention has been paid to the landscaping. 85 trees will be planted to replace the trees cut down for the project and for health reasons (sick trees or trees in danger of collapsing). The selection of tree species has been scrupulously carried out with the help of a nursery marking for delivery on site in January 2021.
