At the 24th International Symposium on Nondestructive Testing of Wood, Jean-Luc Sandoz delivered three presentations, each providing concrete answers to current challenges in timber infrastructure.
His contributions focused on in-situ nondestructive evaluation of wooden poles, enabling the assessment of residual mechanical properties and remaining service life using Polux technology.
He also introduced a high-performance classification system (S / L / XL) designed to assess poles prior to installation based on their expected service life, with XL-rated poles reaching 70 years or more (Luxpole).
Finally, his work on acousto-ultrasonic testing, particularly with Sylvatest, highlighted advanced methods for accurately assessing internal wood quality.
Through these three presentations, a clear vision emerges: smarter, more durable, and more reliable timber infrastructure, built on science rather than assumptions.
