Expertise Chillon Castle, Montreux, Switzerland
In the context of the restoration of the Château de Chillon in Montreux, we carried out a first expertise in 1995 which demonstrated the advanced degradation of the heart of an oak column, the central column of the main structure measuring 70 cm in diameter.
The sylvatest showed that only a healthy and efficient crown of 7cm thickness remains. This crown is sufficient to guarantee the stability of the building, provided that the pathology is not continuous.
The sylvatest also showed that the pathology is extinct (probably for several centuries) but to reassure the owner, the Chillon Castle Foundation, we continue to periodically check every 10 years.
The latest checks show perfect stability.
To be continued!
